Raining
Okay it's raining kinda hard here and I don't want to go to class. But I must. But before I go, I want to do a little contest. The winner will receive a hand-made mix by me. What a prize eh? I'll try and not fill it with stuff I found on blogs. Haha.
Anyway what you have to do to win is tell me your favorite rainy day record and why. I pick the winner. This is gonna be a quick contest, so you have until tonight at midnight to submit your answers in the comments. Please leave your e-mail with your answer.

It's fucking snowing in NYC, but the new Sunset Rubdown, "Shut Up I Am Dreaming" album is supporting me well. Slower and dreamier than Wolf Parade, thus the rainy day suitability. Sort of a cheat contest wise since it is still technically upcoming, but two tracks @ www.merryswankster.com for the interested.
yoshimi battles the pink robots by the flaming lips..
imaginations are for rainy days, and what better toy for the imagination than a girl named yoshimi saving me from pink armageddon machines?
oh..marti's email is... garlicstain@yahoo.com
Hayden's "Elk-Lake Serenade" has got to be my favorite rainy day CD. The songs have the slow melancholy feeling that rainy days are best suited for. The rhythm of such songs as "Home by Saturday", "WIde Eyes" and "Woody" suit the driving rhytm in the rainfall. Songs like "Woody" do really well to lighten the mood, as well, mentioning "when the sun shines" and the Spring. "Comfortable but I would describe the album with.

sorry, to ammend that last sentence by szczepaniajw@unk.edu:
"COmfortable but emotional" is how I would describe the album.
it's nick drake's pink moon for me... quiet despair, yet calming and peaceful.

The Moon and Antartica by Modest Mouse.
Rainy days aren't always sad. They're comfortable, joyful, meloncholy, and angry. Just like this album.
Gah, I forgot. Pippen's (my) email address is PippenSkywalker@hotmail.com
"In the Aroeplane Over the Sea" is my favorite. only because this album takes you on a journey without having to go outside. Its so emotional and breath-taking. everytime i finish listneing to it the whole way through i am left on a good note and cant wait for a sunny day.

"Escondida" by Jolie Holland is my rainy day anthem. From the first lyric "Tonight my heart is full of a sad song..." and then the drums come in and sound like rain drops. Her somber southern voice just make me wanna stay inside all day and relax with a cup of tea.

i love this rain. i'm gonna say the decemberists' her majesty. because when the rain turns to floods and i have to escape by boat, colin meloy is my obvious choice for captain of that boat. plus, his voice always makes me feel like it's already raining.

was this contest inspired by my blog? just wondering...
"Scar" Joe Henry. Particularly the first two songs. Nothing better than driving around on a rainslicked road as Ornette Coleman's disjointed sax solo on "Richard Pryor Addresses a Grieving Nation" segues into the kick drum/snare pulse intro of "Don't Tell Me To Stop". If you're lucky, there's soft thunder in the distance making you feel like, at that moment, you're on the only spot on the planet earth that matters at all.
The Microphone's "The Glow pt.2" is something that has become equated with rain and storms in my memory. The kind of modest pittering beat of "i want wind to blow" to the great crashing waves of "i want to be cold" and everything in between fit any kind of rainfall.

Good News For People Who Love Bad News by Modest Mouse would truly have to be my favourite rainy day album. Coincidentally, the weather has been horribly depressing and rainy here lately and there's nothing better than snuggling up with this album near the space heater :)
Witness UK - Before the Calm. It works as a whole album and segues from last song to first, it's soft enough for rain and never makes me miss the sun, just a little melancholy to tie everything together... it's even good to nap to. Plus you can buy it anywhere for like $0.75.

Sleeping at Last - Ghosts
It's just such a beautiful record. It encompasses all the feelings of a rainstorm. Slower songs about water (Pull me Back to Shore) and you can just imagine yourself standing in the rain looking at the world. There are also faster paced songs that strive to bring the sun through from the dark clouds overhead. Absolutely perfect for a wet day/evening/night.
