Last Year's Model

I've never heard of a kalimba before. Apparently it's also called a "thumb piano" and is basically metal keys mounted on a wooden box. It originated in Africa. Playing it sounds interesting. "Rest the Kalimba on the fingers of both hands and hold it between your palms. Cover the vibrato holes with your fingers. Then pluck the keys with your thumbs. As you play you can un-cover and cover the vibrato holes as you like."
Why the heck am I talking about this? Why? You come here for music not lessons on weird African instruments. Well Laura Barrett plays one. Okay I didn't know who Laura Barrett was before yesterday, but she's got a beautiful voice and plays a kalimba. There that should be enough for you to love her, yes? Okay well here is evidence.

There, that enough? What if I said Final Fantasy loves the song and even covered it once or twice? Yeah I thought that might do it. Plus, Barrett doesn't only play the kalimba. She also has electronic and piano stuff too. Her EP Earth Sciences is, as far as I can tell a self-released effort.

Be her friend!
