Sounds of Serge

Last year, a bunch of cool people got together to remix/cover some Serge Gainsbourg tunes. Cat Power, The Rakes, Franz Ferdinand, Feist, and The Kills each re-did a track for Monsieur Gainsbourg:Revisited. Revered in France, Serge gained notoriety around the world with his style that drew influences from pop, reggae, jazz, mambo, disco, bossa nova, and many more.

His daughter Charlotte Gainsbourg will be releasing an album titled 5:55 on April 24.

Until I have a piece of that, soothe yourself in the sounds of Serge. Thanks to the super cool person who put together these 21 hard to find tracks.

Rare Serge

You should find charlotte's album very easily as it was released in France last august. It's produced by Nigel goldrich, written by AIR & Jarvis Cocker plus Neil Hannon. It's called "5:55".

hate to say it, but my city sucks for imports. the only good store that sold them shut down, and i actually asked the indie store down the street to get me her album on double vinyl right after it came out in the uk, and i've yet to hear from them.

i know, there's the internet, but i like to support the few shops we have.

thanks for the tip though!

Glad to see a post about Serge Gainsbourg. He must be the only famous french singer in the world, it's a shame for us, french, that there's no one else...

I got this album a while back thinking I like a lot of the artists on it, and Serge Gainsbourg is awesome. However, it leaves much to be desired. The translations into English are really painful to listen to, and the arrangements are even worse. Disappointing.
