Dear Santa,All I want for Christmas is to meet Sarah Silverman. You can win it for me here.

If you live in the Portland area, Laura Veirs could be your guitar teacher.Laura is accepting music students in the Portland, Oregon area. If you are interested studying guitar, banjo or songwriting with Laura, please email Clyde at yourheartbreaks@hotmail.com and I will pass along her contact information.
She's teaching lessons in a rad backyard studio with a wood-burning stove and French doors to her garden. It's lovely place to learn music and Laura's a great teacher.
Here's lesson info from Laura:

Guitar, Banjo and Songwriting Lessons
$50/hour
Alberta Arts District location
**************************************
What I Teach:
-- Guitar: country-blues, folk finger-style, rock, pop songs, music/chord theory, singing and playing at the same time
-- Banjo: clawhammer/old time songs with an emphasis on singing and playing
-- Songwriting
Teaching Philosophy:
Over ten years of teaching private lessons I've found that this method works: Listen, play and record.
Listen -- We listen to a recording of the song you want to learn.
Play -- With chords and/or tablature as a visual aid, you play through the song slowly.
Record -- I record the song slowly for you to play along with at home.
Each week I give specific homework for students. Songwriting students are encouraged to use "The Artist's Way" as a supplemental text.
Every few months we have "Star Parties" where all my students gather together to present the music they've been working on. These parties tend to freak out some students but ultimately give them a sense of accomplishment and camaraderie.
I try to make lessons fun, engaging and challenging.
Caveat:
Since I'm a touring musician I am sometimes gone for weeks at a time. Adult students tend to adapt better to my schedule (kids need more consistency to keep up with their lessons).
I have missed these guys. The Duke Spirit don't make standard indie rock, maybe standard british indie rock. Radiohead - Paragons of Virtue (thanks Miss D)

So, I'm not quite sure what happened here, as EVERYONE (Venues & Blogs & powerhouse Pitchfork) was under the impression the Long Blondes were touring. US dates (lack of)
Some of you may have read from various sources that we will be touring America in November, including a number of shows with Gossip. We are sorry to say that this announcement was not exactly accurate – much as we would love to come back to the US, neither us nor Gossip will be touring there in November! We will in fact be spending October and November recording our second album. We’re sorry for the confusion, and we apologise to anyone who hoped to come see us.
Again, a massive apology to all our US fans. x
WOOHOO!! I got 5th row tickets to PJ Harvey's show in LA. I'm super excited. Now, I just have to come up with the airfare. Does anyone know if you have to sit at the Orpheum?
I have it on very good authority that Bob Dylan is the much anticipated missing link to Stubb's ACL aftershow calendar. Stubb's has a full dance card next weekend during the festival, except for Saturday. Speculations have circled Wilco, My Morning Jacket, and the sort, but I just got word this morning from a very reliable insider that the word is Dylan. The show will be announced next week with tickets going on sale on Wednesday. Many thanks to my new best friend for the tip.

Smokey Rolls Down Thunder Mountain will be released on September 25, and while trying to figure out which Devendra Banhart song to post, I found out he's putting up a couple of songs from his forthcoming album each week. You can check out the 2 he's put up here.
New Year's Eve '06
SXSW '04
I have been kicking myself ever since I all but missed On!Air!Library! opened for Secret Machines and Interpol. Who starts a show before 9pm? Well, On!Air!Library! broke up shortly after that, but it seems that the twins have resurfaced.
Perhaps you are not as obsessed with Amy Winehouse. I was REALLY looking forward to her performance at ACL, ever since she cancelled the "private" gig I was depending on at SXSW. I am resigned to the fact that she won't be there (at ACL) as she's entered a program, but I did think about not going for a moment.
Perhaps you read about Eddie Vedder opening for Sleater-Kinney on their last show date. Well, I know Corin has been looking through tons of video tape of the S-K, trying to pick out what will be on their forthcoming DVD, but it looks like she also made some time to sing with her friend Eddie. Corin sings back-up on the song "Hard Sun" for the movie Into the Wild.
Anybody for a new single from The Hives? Can't believe they're opening for Maroon 5. I wish they'd play a club show here. Mike said that at their show at Emo's at SXSW a few years ago, Pelle had his leg stretched between the stage and one of the posts out in the audience. I hear they're quite the showmen.
Kraftwerk has teamed up with Hot Chip to release remixes of 2 of the songs from their Tour de France LP. The single is a nod to the bicycle race beginning in London this year.
If this holds up AND they're going to add more, Fun Fun Fun Fest will easily hit legendary status in only it's 2nd year. Check out this lineup! Kudos to the bookers for gathering Cat Power, New Pornographers, Of Montreal, Mates of State, Final Fantasy, The Cribs, Girl Talk, Diplo, and awesome Austin locals Explosions in the Sky, Okkervil River, and I Love You But I'm a little full of myself (sorry, that's from meeting one of the guys at SXSW). Obviously, I and so many others will be at the 2nd stage, but this year they've spread it out over 2 days. So, keep your eye out for the ticket announcement. These will probably sell out.
Looks like all the problems Lily Allen has had may possibly affect her work. She flew into LA and was detained for 5 hours in connection with an assault in London in June. She gets to stay and help promote the MTV Video Music Awards, but will have to re-apply for a visa for her September show dates.
Haven't gotten your ACL 3 day passes yet.. you, procrastinator, you? If you pledge $100 to KRCW, they'll give you 2 of them. That's half price, and considering they're sold out, that's a steal.
While I'm thinking of clubs and such, I came across this.
Thurston Moore - Black Weeds / White Death C40 Cassette (Meudiademorte)In September, Thurston will release Trees Outside the Academy. Get some tracks here from my previous post about it.
“New solo album from Thurston that dovetails beautifully with the feathers of feedback drone that dominated Flipped-Out Bride. This one starts with the same kind of phantom electricity before dovetailing into railroads of gloriously overloaded guitar, all cut into chunks of singing fuzz. Some absolutely wild playing here that touches on Haino’s form circa The Book Of Eternity Set Aflame. Limited to only 200 copies and housed in a full-colour 8×6 inch art pack. Recommended.”
Volcanic Tongue
No better way to start a weekend then with a must-have-cd. A Fine Frenzy has been on my radar for a while now. I first heard Alison Sudohl's arresting voice on KCRW. Immediately, I had to know who was singing.
It looks like the Long Blondes will be touring the states this fall. They've announced a date for Dallas' House of Blues on November 9th. I can only seem to find 2 other dates.

Now, I've never given Lily Allen much of a chance, but I do love ALLLL things CSS. This is from the forthcoming Lily Allen Ep entitled Alfie.| Thu, 06 Sep 2007 | House of Blues | San Diego | |
| Fri, 07 Sep 2007 | The Joint / Hard Rock Hotel & Casino | Las Vegas | |
| Mon, 10 Sep 2007 | House of Blues | Anaheim | |
| Wed, 12 Sep 2007 | Warfield Theatre | San Francisco | |
| Fri, 14 Sep 2007 | Crystal Ballroom | Portland | |
| Sat, 15 Sep 2007 | Paramount Theatre | Seattle |

Another band with ties to Texas, The Fiery Furnaces have finished a new album Widow City, in reference to to their hometown Chicago. It won't be released until October, but it's been leaked already.
Let's keep this Texas ball Rolling. I was super excited to get the new Belaire in the mail. You know Belaire, twins Cari and Christa and Jason and Matt of Voxtrot.
So much going on this week with musicians from Texas. I'm sure you guys have already picked up the new Spoon and the well-deservedly hyped St. Vincent. You know, I've always said, "If they're from Texas or Canada, they're probably good and/or definitely worth a listen."It's a rock opera about how myself, the band and the ghost of Buddy Holly attempt to save Texas by going on a tour/crime spree in order to perform all 8030 of the songs I've written in my sleep since I was in the womb. It's appropriately titled: "Albatross: How We Failed To Save The Lone Star State With The Power Of Rock And Roll"They've opened for and are R.I.Y.L. Of Montreal, Architecture in Helsinki, Spoon, or The Decemberists.
Bloc Party tickets go on sale in many areas today, including mine. I am excited that they are taking Deerhoof along for the ride. Where is She Wants Revenge anyway? And, what was with opening for Panic at the Disco?
I'm glad that someone told me I mis-labeled my video of Buck 65, because I went looking for the answer on his site and found that he released a free digital Ep.

I don't feel bad announcing a "Secret" show that was announced on Myspace, since everybody and their dog's on that thing. So, this Wednesday The Decemberists are playing a very small , possibly acoustic, show at the Mohawk in Austin. I believe they're going to be in Austin to tape an episode of Austin City Limits. It's going to be first come, first served. Anyone want to save me a spot since I'll be driving down from Dallas?...ha
